Waking Up

2017

An average person spends more than 9,000 days of their life sleeping. That dream world becomes another life parallel. Every morning we close a small cycle: we have another chance to erase the tape and make everything new. To wake up is to be reborn.

The series ‘Waking Up’ explores that intimate moment of rebirth through painting. I invade the house and the people’s room to find them in that Foggy and naive state in which they start their day. I capture them as I find them, with the vulnerability of those who are not yet alert: without pose, without makeup and without barriers. The traces of these morning meetings turn into candid portraits on a large scale. Thus, the viewer also has an opportunity to become an accomplice in the invasion, sharing the intimacy of the moment when the eyes open and we come back to life.
