This exhibition was a meditation, a rite: an understanding and reminder of life and death, and their possibilities and nuances. The dominating concepts: night, the sea, and the duality they create.
The Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes, so present in my existence, are present as telluric symbols.
The project started from my unconscious; it took form with rhythm, with the fluidity of the brushstrokes; with the colours chosen by the night – new to the brush. Introspection, solitude and femininity drove this process.
These paintings are brought together by their colours; they are impossible to photograph – just like the moon. They were made during one moon cycle and only at night, taking light from the darkness. They all containindigo. They can all be seen upside down.
The author Monsiváis said that night is possibility; everything is possibility – just let the swell take you wherever it has to take you.
That’s why these works have to be seen at night and by full moon.
For my grandparents, who are surely sailing.
